Grease Trap Cleaning in Tallinn — Emptying and Maintenance
Restaurants, cafés, large kitchens — we keep your drainage problem-free

A grease trap is a mandatory device in every food business, restaurant and large kitchen — Estonian law requires its installation for all kitchen equipment that discharges fat-rich wastewater into the sewer. The device works simply: water and fat are separated by density difference, fat accumulates in the upper part of the trap, and clean water flows on into the drainage system. The problem arises when the trap is not cleaned — it fills up and fat starts flowing into the drain pipes through overflow. A blocked grease drainage system is a serious problem for a restaurant: food preparation has to stop, customers experience unpleasant smells, a sanitary inspection fine can run to hundreds of euros and excavation work to clear the pipework costs even more. In short: regular grease trap cleaning costs far less than dealing with the consequences. Torupro carries out grease trap cleaning with professional vacuum equipment: we empty and wash both above-ground (the kitchen cabinet unit) and below-ground grease traps. The work is fast and clean — our specialists work away from the kitchen area, do not interfere with food preparation and clean up the work zone afterwards. The cleaning process includes: complete emptying of the grease trap with a vacuum tanker, pressure-washing the interior surfaces of the trap, inspecting and cleaning overflow pipes, removing odour-causing biofilm, and checking the lid and sealing materials. After cleaning our specialist inspects the grease trap condition and fittings and provides a written handover act — a document required for sanitary inspection checks and property management reporting. We recommend cleaning grease traps at least once a month (twice a month in high-load kitchens). We offer regular maintenance contracts at a fixed monthly fee — we arrive on schedule without you having to remind us. We serve all food service businesses in Tallinn and Harjumaa: cafés, restaurants, hospitals, schools, production kitchens and leisure centres.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often does a grease trap need cleaning?
For restaurants and high-load kitchens we recommend monthly cleaning, sometimes twice a month. For smaller cafés every two months may suffice. Sanitary inspections may require more frequent cleaning — in that case our handover acts serve as documentation.
Is a handover act provided for sanitary inspection purposes?
Yes, after every cleaning we provide a written handover act containing the cleaning date, description of work performed and the signature of the responsible person. The act meets the requirements of the Health Board.
What happens if a grease trap is not cleaned?
The grease trap fills up and fat starts accumulating on the pipe walls, causing a blockage and unpleasant smells. Excess fat also damages biological treatment plants and the business risks fines — from both the health inspectorate and the wastewater utility.
Do you offer a grease trap maintenance contract?
Yes, we offer regular maintenance contracts at a fixed monthly fee. We schedule cleaning dates according to your load, notify you in advance and arrive on time. Contract clients also get a priority response time for emergency blockages.
