Well Cleaning in Tallinn — Drinking Water Wells and Sewer Manholes

Well cleaning is an important routine maintenance measure that ensures both the purity of drinking water and the functioning of drainage systems. An uncleaned well accumulates sediment, organic matter, and biofilm year after year, impairing its operation and potentially turning the water into a health risk. Drinking water well cleaning is a hygiene necessity especially for older stone and concrete ring wells, where slime layers, algae, and sand and organic material settled at the bottom accumulate during the year. The Torupro drinking water well cleaning process: first we pump the well empty (except for the water reused for wall washing); we mechanically scrape the well walls, removing biofilm and mineral deposits; we vacuum out sediment, sand, and organic waste from the bottom; we wash the walls with pressurised water; we disinfect the well with a chlorine solution at a concentration meeting the health authority recommendation; we leave the disinfectant to stand for a few hours then rinse; on request we take a water quality sample for laboratory analysis. Sewer manhole cleaning (inspection manholes, collection manholes, stormwater manholes) is a different type of work: the goal is to remove the sediment layer that has accumulated at the manhole base, obstructing water drainage and serving as a bacterial growth medium at junctions. The cleaning process: we vacuum out all sediment and solid material from the base with a vacuum tanker; the manhole walls are washed with pressurised water; we check the overflow and the condition of the incoming pipe.
